Fendt, the first tractor manufacturer to offer a rapeseed oil powered tractor, presented the 820 Variogreentec at the Agritechnica 2007 in Hanover. In the meantime, the first tractors from this series have left the assembly line and are already in operation in various farming businesses.

“The main advantage of the Fendt greentec lies in the fact that it is an integral system available directly from the manufacturer and not a retrofit solution," agree Johann and Roland Kobler, managing directors of Agrolohn Agrardienstleistungs GmbH. Their company is headquartered in Neukirchen v. Wald near Passau, Germany and, with 15,000 hectares of area worked under contract, the largest agricultural contractor in the region. From seeding to harvesting, the Koblers offer their customers a full line of services within a radius of 50 kilometres. The Koblers have already gathered experience with rapeseed oil, since both of the company’s trucks, as well as the heating system, are also powered by rapeseed oil. “Another major advantage of the greentec from Fendt is the full manufacturer's warranty. That means that we don't need machinery breakdown insurance, as is normally the case,” explains Roland Kobler, who is mainly responsible for the accounting in their business.

“Since we produce the rapeseed oil ourselves, the greentec is not only a sound solution from an ecological perspective, but also from an economical one,” explains Martin Enggruber from Wittisbreut near Pfarrkirchen, who also has a new rapeseed oil powered tractor from Fendt in his fleet. Martin Enggruber and his father run a contracting company that primarily offers threshing and chopping services. They have been owners of a rapeseed press, with which they produce some 30,000 litres of rapeseed oil annually for their own use, for about five years now. “Fendt offers many advantages with greentec, starting with the warranty and including features like excellent system monitoring, which is integrated in the terminal, a very useful dual-tank system and the well-known advantages of a Vario,” adds Martin Enggruber.
