Fendt-tractors persuade with profitability

With five successful Vario ranges, Fendt offers the latest technology for boosting power, efficiency and profitability.

Fendt Varios - the fuel-savers

Independent tests carried out by the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and trade journals clearly prove that the tractors in the Fendt Vario family are leaders in fuel economy. Over the past nine months, Tier III tractors from different brands underwent thorough testing. The Fendt models, Vario 312, Vario 415, Vario 820 and Vario 936, were each the best and most economical tractor in their class.

When implementing the mandatory emissions level COM III, Fendt chose not to take the easy path and only recirculate the exhaust internally. At Fendt, the technically more sophisticated method, recirculating exhaust gas back to the combustion chamber externally, was chosen. This also led to a further reduction in fuel consumption.

Another point that makes the Varios from Fendt very efficient and fuel-saving tractors is that the engine of a Vario can always be driven in the most economical range. According to neutral tests in mixed operations, up to six percent of working time and eight percent in fuel can be saved in the course of a year with infinitely variable speed adjustment.

Fuel costs are the largest cost factor in the service life of a tractor, with a share of up to 60 percent. These costs are almost twice as high as the actual purchase price of the tractor. Therefore, the cost of fuel over a service life is the decisive factor in overall profitability and cost leadership.

Constant development

The development area at Fendt is gaining in importance. To be able to offer customers the most profitable products, Fendt engineers are continually working on new developments. For instance, Fendt now also offers automatic steering axle lock, which was awarded a silver medal at the Agritechnica 2007, for the 700 and 800 Vario. This system automatically locks the free-castering self-steering axle at a defined speed as well as when reversing. If necessary, drivers can override this optionally available system manually.

PTO-driven implements that do not require maximum engine power can be run at a reduced engine speed with the new ground PTO 1000/1000 E, which also reduces fuel consumption. The new PTO shaft, which is available as an option for the Vario 900, attains a rated speed of 1000 rpm at 1600 engine rpm.

Documentation also plays an increasingly important role in promoting efficient work. Fendt therefore offers a trip recorder for the Vario range that complies with EC-regulations. This is mandatory for commercial operations and, for agricultural applications, for trips outside of a 100 kilometre radius of the farm.

Fendt offers a new approach

Fendt offers customers an entirely new approach to working as economically as possible. For this solution, the employees from Fendt received a silver medal at the Agritechnica 2007. The Fendt 820 Vario greentec is the first tractor that is designed to be powered by cold-pressed rapeseed oil directly from the assembly line.

The new concept is based on a valve-controlled dual-tank system. The valves automatically switch from diesel to rapeseed oil dependent on engine load and rapeseed oil temperature. When the system switches back to diesel, the rapeseed oil branch is flushed with diesel. With this product, customers profit from a manufacturer-tested system with all the accustomed Fendt warranty and goodwill services.

While only a prototype was exhibited on the fairgrounds in Hanover, series production development and testing pressed ahead quickly. In the meantime, the first 820 Variogreentec have left the assembly line.

Fendt CARGO front loader - the ideal partner for Vario tractors

The new generation of Fendt front loaders, which were also introduced at the Agritechnica 2007, are also in series production now. Next to meeting the highest quality requirements, a major objective during the development of the Fendt CARGO was that the Vario tractors and the new front loader are optimally adapted to each other. All the controls are integrated in the tractor operating concept.

Thanks to the semi-automatic CARGO Lock, it is no longer necessary to insert locking bolts, which is often difficult. The CARGO Lock is a sophisticated technical solution that is also self-adjusting and extremely service-friendly. An additional innovative feature of the new Fendt front loader is that all the hydraulic components are accommodated in the crossbeam.

Utilise maximum potential

Fendt not only offers customers optimum solutions for economical operations, but now also offers training programmes for customers so that they can tap the full potential of their Fendt product.

The new driver training programme, Fendt Expert, teaches customers how to boost area coverage and save fuel. The programme focuses on differentiated and comprehensive user-specific training and conveys new training content. The driver training programme can be held on site, at the dealer's or at the main production facilities in Marktoberdorf and is conducted by FENDT employees that have gathered the appropriate comprehensive practical experience over many years. The training programme can be booked through dealers or via the Fendt website.
