The direct, low-loss PTO drive and the tremendously lightweight design of the Fendt 724 Vario were also highlighted. Through its nearly 8-tonne unladen weight, the tractor requires less diesel for its own operation than its competitors.
Top values in PowerMix
“(Still) far superior: In nearly all test cycles of the DLG PowerMix, our Fendt 724 Vario was superior in terms of fuel-efficiency. In particular, the Bavarian tractor set itself apart from the competition in the area of PTO work and mixed work (draft, PTO, hydraulics). The reference value was determined from two tractors in the power class with Tier 4 final emissions and five tractors with Tier 4 interim emissions,” writes the trade magazine traction (Issue 01/2016), describing the results of the independent tests.
255 g/kWh and only 13,8 g/kWh AdBlue*
- Lively: The 724 Vario has a weight-power ratio of only 33 kg/hp, which makes it lively and full of temperament*
- AdBlue consumption amounting to 3.4 vol % of the diesel consumption*
- Extremely manoeuvrable*

The tractors strength: transport
“One of the strengths clearly continues to be transport. We performed the transport PowerMix at the DLG for the first time with our test candidate and the data speaks for the tractor from the Allgäu: With 498 g/kWh, the 724 Vario is clearly at the top of its power class in terms of fuel economy. This is one of the fortes of the Vario – and that is no surprise,” confirms traction (01/2016).
Also tested by European trade magazines: The Fendt 720 Vario is the best in its class!
The German agricultural magazine Top Agrar (11/2015) carried out a comprehensive, three-part comparison test of six 200-hp tractors in collaboration with European partner magazines.
The results of the independent press are clear: The 720 Vario is the Number 1 in the European comparison with an outstanding overall score of 1.7.
The Fendt 700 Vario in comparison to others
The 720 Vario is by far the best tractor of all the tested models in the sum of all the qualities. Fendt clearly leads in six of 10 criteria, in two criteria it is amongst the top. It also wins in the cost comparison. It has the lowest operating costs for diesel and AdBlue and, with 859 Nm, it has the highest absolute torque of all the test candidates.

With 6.2 t, its payload is more than 2 t higher than any other tractor in its class. It also clearly leads in manoeuvrability, with a turning circle of 11.23 m compared to 12.65 m and 13.03 m for the other test participants.
How it looks like with soft criteria’s?
The Fendt 720 Vario also took first place for its cab, electronics (Variotronic), ergonomics as well as workmanship.
The Fendt 720 Vario was tested in the cab comparison test carried out by the trade magazine profi (profi 12/2015) by three operators 2.04 m, 1.85 m and 1.60 m tall. Despite the great differences in height, the operators agreed in the overall evaluation: They gave the Fendt 720 Vario the best overall rating.
