Turn automatically regardless of space or implement: Fendt VariotronicTI Turn Assistant

Fendt VariotronicTI Turn Assistant now offers a reverse turn (Y-turn and K-turn) alongside the existing fully-automatic turn types. It also allows you to automatically turn three-point mounted implements and on small headlands.

All available systems for automatic turning currently execute the manoeuver when moving forward, and are therefore ideal for drawn implements. The current turn types do however have their limits in practice. The “keyhole” turn needs a large headland to drive on after turning. When performing a U-turn, the headland can be much smaller because rows are bypassed (broad acre cropping), but then the implement cannot finish the row in a straight line.

The new Fendt VariotronicTI Turn Assistant also offers a reverse turn in two different versions: the Y-turn and the K-turn. These two turn types with a direction change have a number of advantages in practice. Firstly, an automatic turn can be executed even on smaller structures. Automated turns are also an option for three-point mounting implements if you need to finish a row in a straight line, for example when ploughing.

Turn type in detail

Fendt VariotronicTI Turn Assistant is integrated into the user interface of the Varioterminal as an optional addition to the VarioGuide guidance system. The driver enters all relevant parameters on the terminal, e.g. the required turn type or headland size. The implements are always used and raised with precision on the headland thanks to “VariotronicTI automatic” headland management.

The Y-turn is the usual turn type. On entering the headland, the sequence starts automatically, the combine brakes and reverses, the reversing is done automatically via cruise control, and at the end the combine runs seamlessly back into the next wayline.

The K-turn is a special type of reverse turn and is especially suited to turning on slopes which tractor with rear attachment can climb while reversing. This turn type helps stabilise the entire combine.

The benefits of the new automatic Y-turn and K-turn types lie in the enhanced quality of work. Even relatively inexperienced drivers can drive precisely and identically into and out of the field – without overlapping or errors. This saves on fuel, reduces ground compaction, but also saves time in turning, since no additional manoeuvring is needed. Just as using a guidance system in a field ensures better accuracy and makes work easier, the Fendt VariotronicTI Turn Assistant now allows easier turning for the driver. Overall safety is also enhanced for both driver and implements.
