Max Eyth Young Talent Award goes to a Fendt Bachelor’s Thesis

Tobias Pfetsch received the Young Talent Award for his Bachelor’s thesis from the VDI (Association of German Engineers) Max Eyth Society for Agricultural Engineering on 7 June.

The Young Talent Award of the Max Eyth Society is presented by the committee for outstanding agricultural engineering theses. In his Bachelor’s thesis, Tobias Pfetsch looked at a sustainable and more precise alternative to conventional planting equipment, and developed a ground drive for mobile agricultural robots.

“The Max Eyth Young Talent Award is hugely prestigious and is awarded in recognition for the work of Young engineers in the agricultural engineering sector,” says Benno Pichlmaier, AGCO Director Global Technology & Innovation. “Our students often work on new, complex systems, and provide valuable input into series production solutions which are created as a result of their work. We’re always delighted when this is acknowledged by the VDI award.”

Tobias Pfetsch studied Mechanical Engineering at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences. He continued working for the Fendt brand after graduation, and works as an engineer on the design of the Fendt Tigo loading wagon series at the Waldstetten production site in Bavaria.

His relationship with farming and agricultural equipment has been a close one since childhood, as his parents are full-time farmers on a dairy and arable farm in Blaustein (Alb-Donau-Kreis).

Johannes Utz, Project Lead Robotics in Fendt Advanced Development, acted as Bachelor’s thesis supervisor to Tobias Pfetsch. Utz himself received the Max Eyth Young Talent Award back in 2017 for the former EU MARS Project, which formed the basis of the Fendt Xaver strategic research project.

The Max Eyth Young Talent Award is presented by the VDI Society Technologies of Life Sciences, Agricultural Engineering Division. Prize money of €600 is sponsored by the Max Eyth Foundation.
