Sustainability at Fendt

Fendt has been making a massive contribution to sustainable agriculture for decades. We have continuously developed this commitment. With the Sustainability at Fendt strategy adopted in March 2022, we are integrating the issue of sustainability in our corporate strategy and are consistently aligning our corporate actions with it.

Global challenges: innovation is key

The world is facing great challenges – and agriculture is playing a central role. In 2050, around ten billion people will be living on our planet. Against the background of the ongoing effects of climate change, innovative technical solutions are required in order to be able to feed the world population and simultaneously use existing resources as efficiently as possible. With rising demand for agricultural products, the efficiency and durability of the machinery used is key to raising food production in an environmentally sound way whilst, at the same time, using as few resources as possible.

Political framework: the European Union’s Green Deal

According to estimates of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, our food is responsible for about 20 to 35 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. As a result of the growth in humanity, this proportion could increase considerably if humanity does not fundamentally change the manner in which food is produced globally. Politicians have reacted to this immense challenge in the past few years. In the EU’s Green Deal and the German Climate Protection Act, ambitious targets have been formulated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, for reforestation, to reduce the use of pesticides and to expand organic agriculture. The intention is to cut greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture by 20 per cent by 2030 – this is equivalent to about 14 million tonnes of CO2.

The aim and a conflict:

Against the background of global developments, our customers, farmers, see themselves faced with conflicting aims. On the one hand, they must significantly increase their productivity in order to be able to feed the growing world population. On the other hand, they ought to meet the conditions and provisions set to protect the climate and the world. We at Fendt have made it our task to support our customers to solve this conflict and to contribute to sustainable global development.

We are close to nature with our products. We strive to be the first choice for sustainable and innovative technological solutions for premium quality agricultural machinery and technology. We want Fendt to be appreciated by customers, business partners and employees as a responsible company, trustworthy partner and driving force in creating viable and sustainable agriculture. We are aware that Fendt is just one of many players in the agricultural value-creation chain, which extends from farm to fork. Our aim is to contribute to sustainable development in and the transformation of agriculture within our sphere of influence through concrete actions.

For example today, by using Fendt technologies, our customers can cut emissions in their agricultural production by up to 50 per cent. We want to take our customers and other participants in this value-creation chain with us on our way to our goal by supporting them with our solutions and know-how. We are sure that the requirements of the present and future can only be met when we take this path together.

The Sustainability at Fendt strategy

Since March 2022, there has been a comprehensive Sustainability at Fendt strategy, which sets out our commitment in a clear framework. This is how Fendt integrates sustainability at the heart of its corporate strategy. We coordinate with our parent company, AGCO, and make a concrete contribution to the AGCO sustainability priorities. We have defined six central areas in which we combine our sustainability activities. These areas are supply chain, production, employees, products, partnership commitment and society. We have created concrete and ambitious targets for each area.
