The Hamburg Derby is an event like no other. Held in a park in the heart of Klein Flottbek, it boasts unrivalled crowds, and a course that was developed back in 1920 and has scarcely changed since. The five-day attendance of around 96,000 created an extraordinary atmosphere. As always, the biggest cheers were reserved for the Derby itself, featuring a specially created course and the familiar permanent obstacles, with the loudest applause for riders who overcame the famous Derby Bank.
“It’s great fun to be here at this huge sporting event, to see the best of the best. Many, many thanks to Fendt for giving us the opportunity to come along,” said one of the guests invited by Fendt. The crowd was on the edge of their seats by the final jump-off round, the highpoint of the event, with Nisse Lüneburg and his horse Cordillo coming out on top in a thrilling finale. Following a clear round, the clock put them just ahead of Irish rider, Shane Breen.
