Fendt IDEAL receives highest recognition at the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018

With the Red Dot: Best of the Best 2018, the Fendt IDEAL has been honored with the highest award at the world-renowned Red Dot design competition. Only the best products of a category receive the internationally recognized seal of quality from a panel of experts. Fendt’s combine harvester was among a small selection of products which were able to win over the Red Dot jury in the ‘commercial vehicle’ category.

Peter-Josef Paffen, CEO of the AGCO/Fendt Management Board.

“It is not only a great pleasure but also a great honor to belong to the best of the best at the Red Dot Design Award 2018”, says Peter-Josef Paffen, CEO of the AGCO/Fendt Management Board. “It was a global team of experts who were really committed, worked together and developed the Fendt IDEAL. So the Fendt IDEAL really is a product that has been designed thanks to a global team effort. We designed a combine harvester which defines itself through its efficiency, its power and its innovative design, and that is something we can be really proud of.”

“Winning the Red Dot: Best of the Best is the well-earned recognition for excellent design performance. The awarded products are all characterised by an innovative symbiosis of aesthetics and function. The fact that such a small number of entries received the top distinction is proof of the rigorous nature of the judging criteria applied in the competition. I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success”, said

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award.

Designers and manufactures from 59 countries submitted more than 6,300 objects to the competition. The submitted products were tested and assessed individually in the course of an evaluation process which lasted several days. The jury consisting of 40 independent design experts from all over the world evaluated on the basis of strict criteria, such as level of innovation, functionality, ergonomics and durability. Only 1% of all entries received the highest recognition and were honored as Red Dot: Best of the Best.

„Our harvesting experts and engineers visited various farms in more than 40 countries and spoke to hundreds of farmers and customers about their harvesting needs and the features they wished their harvesting machines had”, says Eric P. Hansotia, Senior Vice President, Global Crop Cycle and Fuse Connected Services AGCO. “The output of this activity clearly showed the need of a completely new machine, which is able to be used for all crops and operate in all conditions, in all parts of the world.” With the development of the Fendt IDEAL, a design was created which stands for efficiency, dynamic and strength.

The Red Dot: Best of the Best laureates will receive their award at the award ceremony in Essen, Germany on the 9th of July 2018. After the ceremony, the award-winning products will be featured for four weeks at the special exhibition “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018” at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen. On five levels and 4,000 m² the design museum offers one of the world’s largest exhibitions of contemporary design.
