"The best factory is only ever as good as the people who work there" – Fendt wins Industrial Excellence Award

At the 2017 Industrial Excellence Conference in Berlin held on October 4, 2017, the Otto Beisheim School of Management (WHU) presented the coveted Industrial Excellence Award Europe to AGCO/Fendt. The special Laureate award was given to Fendt's production specialists for measures which will be carried out in full in 2018.

Ekkehart Gläser, Production Managing Director AGCO/Fendt

"Last year, across every division and department, we asked ourselves: How do we set ourselves up for continued success in the future as a company and as a brand? And so we came up with the Fendt 2020 Strategy," says Ekkehart Gläser, Production Managing Director AGCO/Fendt. "We also need to make comprehensive adjustments in Production, of course, so we can respond quickly and flexibly to customer wishes in the future, without any compromise on quality."

Led by Prof. Dr. Arnd Huchzermeier, Chair for Production Management at WHU and initiator and coordinator of this industry competition, the judges were impressed by "a highly flexible production line system with variable cycle times and a digital quality management system". Visiting the Fendt tractor factory in Marktoberdorf allowed the team of judges to see first-hand how the processes are put into practice.

At the Fendt headquarters, every tractor series – from the narrow-gauge Fendt 200 V Vario to the powerful 517-hp Fendt 1000 Vario – is built on a production line with equipped with every possible feature. All the test benches, including those for the gearbox, the hydraulics, the electronics and even the braking system, are integrated into the production process. Further quality gates staffed by trained quality personnel are embedded into the actual manufacturing process. The Fendt brand image and therefore the most important aspect of the Fendt 2020 Strategy, is quality. All the effort that goes into this pays for itself and is also supported by the annual DLG Image Barometer. For the 18th time in a row, Fendt has taken the number one spot out of all the agricultural technology brands.

"With modern processes and structures, we can build the best tractors and deliver them on time. The whole process puts our ideas to the test time and time again," says Peter Bebersdorf, Plant Manager of the Marktoberdorf tractor factory. "But the best factory is only ever as good as the people who work there. Their commitment, reliability and attention to detail, as well as the pride they show in the machines, makes Fendt the best factory."

Since 1995, the Industrial Excellence Award – formerly the "The Best Factory" award – has honoured those companies from the industry and services sector across Europe that set standards in terms of management quality in their industries, and foster European competitiveness. The main purpose of this competition is to implement the strategic issue of, How can companies implement strategic goals across the divisions?
