On 9 January 2020, at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Prof. Martin H. Richenhagen – Chairman, President and CEO of the AGCO Corporation – gave a guest speech on Smart Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture.

Dr. Horst Wildemann invited Martin Richenhagen to the TUM School of Management as part of its series of lectures on "Added Value in Industry 4.0". The AGCO Group CEO described to Business students the opportunities in agriculture from digitalisation from the point of view of an international company.


"As a global company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, we have a great responsibility not only to our investors, but also, of course, to society as a whole," said Martin Richenhagen. "Especially as an agricultural equipment manufacturer, we can provide farmers with technical solutions that both protect the environment – that is, the earth, air and water around us – and promote animal welfare, as well as solutions that work effectively and are economically viable for their farm," said the AGCO Group CEO.

By way of example, he demonstrated to the students pen systems for laying hens, which offer the creatures more space and movement while supporting species-specific behaviour and animal hygiene. From the field of smart farming technology, he presented examples of how the application and drift of spraying agents can be enormously reduced by using special nozzles on field sprayers, and how sensors in combine harvesters and the processing of data in apps can make work much easier for the driver.
