2018 is all about the powder for Fendt

At the end of last year, the Fendt site in Asbach-Bäumenheim opened its new

powder-coating plant. Costing €5.7 million, the agricultural technology company

continues to invest in modern production, the top priority being the quality of

the machines.

2018 is all about the powder for Fendt

At the end of last year, the Fendt site in Asbach-Bäumenheim opened its new

powder-coating plant. Costing €5.7 million, the agricultural technology company

continues to invest in modern production, the top priority being the quality of

the machines.

The new plant consists of two fully automated painting systems, which coat every cab part with a grey base varnish. "The powder-coating plant uses an eco-conscious, very effective coating technique. The varnishes are harmless to health and free of solvents. 99% of the sprayed varnish can also be recycled. Any missed powder is picked up and reprocessed," says Ekkehart Gläser, Production Managing Director at AGCO/Fendt. "And of course, the customer also benefits from powder-coating. The primer is weatherproof, offers high corrosion protection and is generally resistant to mechanical impacts," says Gläser, explaining the advantages of powder coatings.

The positively charged powder is sprayed from the nozzles onto the negatively charged components. This gives the powder excellent adhesion qualities, reaching every nook and cranny. The parts are then introduced to the 200°C dryer, where the powder melts into a base varnish. The company can now paint up to 15,000 cab components per day.

"Only by using such sophisticated systems can we increase efficiency in a comparatively expensive production country like Germany," says Gläser. "The investment in the Asbach-Bäumenheim cab production plant has come at exactly the right time. The agricultural technology market picked up again in 2017. We want to drive our numbers up from 15,000 tractors last year to 20,000 by 2020," says the Production Managing Director. With this, Asbach-Bäumenheim is becoming increasingly strategically important within the AGCO Group. With around 1,200 employees, it is the European centre of excellence for cab production. As well as production for Fendt sister brands, the cabs for the new large combine, Fendt IDEAL, and the self-propelling pesticide sprayer, Fendt Rogator 600, are also manufactured here.

District Administrator, Stefan Rößle

The District Administrator, Stefan Rößle, praised the company's courage and willingness to act. He pointed out that the new paintwork plant was a longer-term investment that would lend economic stability to the region. "Approval procedures are always complicated, especially when it comes to emission protection," says Rößle. "But the cooperation shown here made light work of the process".

Roland Neubauer, Deputy Mayor of Asbach-Bäumenheim, also praised the investment: "When this company thrives, the community thrives. After all, we all

benefit from the corporation tax". The municipal council agreed in its most recent meeting to expand Hall 5 to accommodate more automatic welding systems.
