Gen6 vs. Gen7.1

What can the Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 do compared to the Legend?

The new Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 was directly compared with its predecessor, the Fendt 724 Vario Gen6 - a legendary bestseller - in the tractor test of the trade magazine Profi (issue 10/2025). The central question was: Can the new generation continue this success story? The answer is clear: The Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor and sets new standards. In independent tests, it impresses with increased power, reduced diesel consumption and innovative technologies such as Fendt DynamicPerformance and the VarioDrive drivetrain. The results show: Farmers benefit from noticeably greater efficiency, comfort and manoeuvrability. You can find out which values and facts make the difference in the following overview.

"Overall, the Gen7.1 consumed 242 g/kWh (+26 g/kWh AdBlue), significantly less than the Gen6 with 263 g/kWh diesel plus 11 g/kWh AdBlue."

The new legend?

The convincing points of the Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1

The result is clear: the Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 impresses with more power and lower fuel consumption. The smart Fendt DynamicPerformance extra power concept delivers up to 20 hp more power in all models, while the modern AGCO Power CORE75 engine with the Fendt iD low-speed concept works particularly efficiently. In addition, the VarioDrive drivetrain ensures a turning circle of less than 11 metres - a real plus point in this performance class. In addition, the Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 is permissible for speeds of up to 60 km/h, which makes it particularly attractive for transport work. The spacious cab in combination with the proven FendtONE operating concept also offers maximum comfort and perfect all-round vision in the new generation. With impressive hydraulic power, a high payload and numerous well thought-out details, the Fendt 724 Vario Gen7.1 is a real all-rounder for every farm and a worthy successor to the legendary 6th generation.

The Fendt 728 Vario continues on the road to success

The Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture tested a total of 6 different tractors in the 300 hp class. Alongside a Claas Axion 870, John Deere 6R 250, Massey Ferguson 8S.305 VT, New Holland T7.300 and Valtra Q285, the Fendt 728 Vario Gen7 positively stood out in numerous categories. Especially the efficient drive, the cab or FendtONE - the technology of the Fendt 728 Vario is impressive! Unbeatable low diesel consumption again during transport work.

The Fendt 728 Vario showed the lowest diesel consumption in the practical test, proving once again that it is a real leader in transport work!

“The trailer combination achieved the lowest diesel consumption, well ahead of the other test candidates: 55 litres per 100 km, which is 13.6 litres less diesel than the average of all test candidates - enormous!”
Bayerisches Landwirtschaftliches Wochenblatt, issue 43/2024 based on the Schleppertest 2024, Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture

With an average of 68.6 litres per 100 km for all test candidates, that is around 19.8% less diesel consumption - the Fendt 728 Vario is a pioneer in this horsepower class and is therefore also easy on the wallet.

With the Fendt 728 Vario, get more out of it.

The 2024 tractor test by the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture also proves that the Fendt 728 Vario Gen7 is simply an all-rounder in a class of its own. It is the only tractor in this hp class to be approved for 60 km/h and is equipped with 4 PTO speeds, making it perfect for transport and PTO work. But it can also excel at front loader work. With the VisioPlus cab, you can see further up and always keep an overview. It also shows its strengths in the field: With the quietest cab in the test, the best manoeuvrability and the largest payload of the 6 tractors tested, the Fendt 728 Vario shows that it is ahead of the pack here, too. The Fendt 700 Vario Gen7 inspires with this

Thanks to leading Fendt technologies, the Fendt 700 Vario Gen7 is the undisputed new leader in its performance class.

Our innovation spotlights:

  • Intelligent VarioDrive
  • AGCO Power engine with 7.5 litre cubic capacity
  • Fendt iD low engine speed concept
  • The VarioGrip integrated tyre pressure system
  • Excellent manoeuvrability with pull-in-turn effect
  • Extremely low power-to-weight ratio

Most economical and fastest

In the practical Powermix consumption tests, the Fendt 728 proved to be frugal and very frugal in all cycles and more economical than the average of all tractors tested to date. In the transport tests it emerged as the most economical tractor we have ever tested. Even when doing 60km/hr, consumption is below the current record at 40km/hr.” (profi 3/2024)

Powerful engine

On the dyno, the test pointer stopped at 203kW/272 hp at rated speed, with a max of 206kW/276 hp at 1,500 rpm. With the boost kicking in, the maximum output reached 223kW/299 hp – a very good value. This also applies to the maximum torque, which is an impressive 1,364 Nm (at 1,300 rpm).” (profi 3/2024)

Record-breaking payload

Sensationally low fuel consumption

The Fendt’s overall Powermix rate is a low 242g/kWh (+ 24.2g/kWh AdBlue), a result that places the 728 in the top five of the most frugal tractors we've ever tested.” (profi 3/2024)

Excellent towing capacity

But what about the 728’s drawbar power? It will come as no surprise to learn that with a max of 172.5 kW/231.3 hp and a specific consumption of just 248 g/kWh, the 728 Vario also does very well here.” (profi 3/2024)

Superior manoeuvrability

Yet we were even more impressed by the 728’s manoeuvrability. Thanks also to the 'pull-in-turn' effect of the automatic all-wheel drive, we measured a turning circle of just 12.25m (VF600/70 R30, 1.98m track width) — that's very good!” (profi 3/2024)

VarioDrive traction drive & automatic four-wheel drive

The new 700 sports the TA190 VarioDrive transmission, which, just like the TA400 in the 900 and 1000 Vario tractors, no longer has a manual range — about time! We liked the tensionfree, auto-controlled all-wheel drive even better; it always worked perfectly in our test conditions.” (profi 3/2024)

4-speed PTO as standard

As standard, the rear pto offers four speeds (540/540E/1,000/1,000E), something which not all of the 728's competitors can do in this power class.” (profi 3/2024)
