Fendt e107 V Vario wins "Sustainable TotY 2024" and Fendt Slicer mower combination receives DLG Silver award

On Sunday 12 November, Fendt had two reasons to celebrate: The Fendt e107 V Vario is the "Sustainable Tractor of the Year 2024" and the automated conditioner setting on the Fendt Slicer 960 was honoured with a silver Agritechnica Innovation Award.

The versatile battery-electric specialist, the Fendt e107 V Vario with 55 kW power and compact dimensions, is ideal for use in special crops, municipalities or in enclosed spaces such as greenhouses. The Fendt e107 V Vario impressed the jury with its sustainable use of energy and resources.

"The Fendt e107 V Vario is the first fully electric specialised tractor on the market with an output of over 60 hp. It has a battery capacity of 100 kWh, which means an estimated range of approx. 4 to 7 hours for partial load applications such as cutting, mowing or road maintenance. The e107 V Vario is emission-free and has the same dimensions as conventional machines, so farmers can continue to use their existing implements with the tractor. The same applies to the four-post cab, which offers better visibility than the conventional model without an exhaust pipe," said the jury in its statement.

Walter Wagner (Geschäftsführer für Forschung & Entwicklung Fendt)

"Christoph Mayer and his team have developed a sustainable and practical tractor. The challenge lies in the right overall package of dimensions, weight and performance. Charged with green electricity, it is CO2-neutral and has numerous functions for particularly efficient use of energy," says Walter Wagner, Managing Director for Research & Development at Fendt. "That's why we are delighted to have received the Sustainable TotY award for our electric tractor."

About the "Tractor of the Year" award

The "Tractor of the Year" award has been presented once a year since 1998. Since 2006, the awards have alternated between EIMA and Agritechnica. The independent jury consists of 26 journalists from 26 European countries. Since its establishment, Fendt tractors have been honoured seven times in the main "Tractor of the Year" category, more often than any other award-winning brand.

Automated conditioning for mower combination receives DLG Silver

On the same day, the DLG honours the automatic conditioner setting for the Fendt Slicer 960 mower combination with the silver Agritechnica Innovation Award.

Christoph Gröblinghoff (Chairman of the Fendt Management Board)

"The Fendt Slicer 960 rear mower has been completely redeveloped for the Fendt brand. With a maximum working width of 10.10 metres and ISOBUS functions, the mower meets the requirements of our professional customers. Our engineers have developed the automated conditioning system so that farmers can do their work more efficiently and produce good forage," says Christoph Gröblinghoff, Chairman of the Fendt Management Board. "This is the first time we have received an award for our Fendt green forage harvesting technology. The award rewards the work and expertise of our team in Feucht."

"Both animals and humans benefit equally from the significant further development of the conditioner settings. Homogeneous qualities lead to better animal welfare and the driver of the mower combination only needs to focus his attention on the mowing process. The distinctive and decisive settings on the conditioner, on the other hand, are controlled by the sensor system or application map. The mass-determined settings reduce fuel consumption and crumbling losses. This artificial intelligence takes the strain off the driver, reduces set-up times and enables consistent and economical work," was the jury's statement.

Automation for conditioning intensity

On the Fendt Slicer 960 KC Pro and 1010 KC Pro models with tine conditioner, as well as those with conveyor belt, drivers can control the intensity of conditioning variably and directly from the cab. To make things even easier, the counter comb can be set automatically either with the help of a sensor or by using satellite data and the application maps derived from it. The rear mower also controls the conditioning intensity in the front mower, such as the Fendt Slicer FQ, via the ISOBUS function. The three mower units can react individually to different conditions across the entire working width. This means that the conditioning intensity of the front mower can differ from that of the rear mowers, just as the intensity of the two rear mower units can be regulated differently.

If the sensor is used, it records the biomass in real time. A linear motor uses the sensor data to steplessly control the intensity of the conditioning process. When used with satellite-based application maps, the conditioner accesses the data from the transmitted biomass. The aim: more homogeneous drying of the forage for higher forage quality. Thanks to more homogeneous drying, the forage reaches the desired dry matter content at a uniform time. This leads to a consistent and high quality of forage and is essential for economically successful dairy cattle feeding.
