Innovative products for sustainable agriculture

Fendt develops smart and resource-efficient products that help farmers to implement climate-friendly agriculture. Thanks to the long service life and innovative technology of our products, we make a decisive contribution to ecological sustainability and support the fulfilment of political requirements such as the EU Green Deal.
Three Fendt tractors are on the podium with consumption values according to PowerMix 2.0: 1st place – Fendt 1050 Vario (233 g/kWh), 2nd place – Fendt 1046 Vario (234 g/kWh), 3rd place – Fendt 1042 Vario (236 g/kWh).

DLG PowerMix test

Fendt sets standards in efficiency

Fendt impresses in the DLG PowerMix test with the lowest fleet fuel consumption in the high horsepower range of large tractors. Of all the tractors ever tested in the independent DLG PowerMix, five Fendt tractors are in the top six places, including the Fendt 1000 Vario series and the Fendt 942 Vario. The Fendt 728 Vario is the most economical tractor in the 240 to 300 hp power class.

Our continuously variable Vario transmission saves up to 10 per cent fuel and contributes to annual savings of around 336 million litres. Other environmentally friendly technologies such as the demand-led fan drive, the low-speed concept, separate oil circuits and the lightweight construction reduce the consumption of resources.

Fendt VarioGrip

Our technologies also help to maintain and improve soil health. An outstanding example of this is Fendt VarioGrip, the first system fully integrated into the vehicle concept for dynamic air pressure control while driving. This enables our customers to protect the soil and the microorganisms it contains. This has a positive effect on plant health and therefore yields and contributes to the formation of humus layers in the soil. These layers can absorb CO2 and are important greenhouse gas sinks in the fight against climate change.

Future-proof agriculture with sustainable drives

In addition to technical efficiency, Fendt focuses on alternative drives. All tractors with AGCO Power or MAN engines are suitable for synthetic fuels such as HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) in accordance with ISO EN15940. HVO is obtained from sustainable raw materials such as plant waste and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90 per cent.

Digital solutions such as FendtONE also optimise work processes, save resources and increase efficiency in agriculture.

Guidance system

The use of guidance systems can reduce operating resources by up to 10 per cent. Additional savings of up to 10 per cent are possible through site-specific applications such as Section Control, as fields can be cultivated even more precisely. FendtONE also ensures greater efficiency in operational planning and documentation, reducing the time required for analyses and compliance with legal regulations by up to 10 per cent. In addition, machine-related data helps to detect faults and analyse damage more quickly - this can reduce the time required for diagnostics by up to 30 per cent.

Fendt e100 Vario

The Fendt e100 Vario is the first fully electric series tractor – emission-free, low-maintenance and cost-efficient. Powered by German green electricity, it reduces CO₂ emissions in the usage phase by up to 85 per cent and can be operated with self-generated solar, wind or bio-electricity. Thanks to automatic start-stop and recuperation, it is particularly energy-efficient. Fendt also relies on sustainable materials – such as tyres made from 65 per cent recycled raw materials. The Fendt e100 Vario was honoured with the Sustainable Tractor of the Year 2025 award for its innovation.

Fendt Helios

Battery-powered tractors such as the Fendt e100 V Vario and the Fendt e100 Vario are suitable for the power range up to 100 hp, while gaseous fuels such as methane and hydrogen offer a promising solution for the medium power segment. With the Fendt Helios project, Fendt is taking an important step towards emission-free agriculture. The hydrogen-powered tractor was developed as part of a subsidised project and combines fuel cells with a 25 kWh battery for 135 hp. It has been tested in practice for over a year. The first prototypes are already being used successfully in the Haren region in Emsland. The field tests have provided valuable insights into energy management, thermal management and mechanics, which are now being used to optimise the tractor.

The 11-gigatonne challenge

Eric Hansotia and the future of agriculture

Without change, agriculture will emit 15 gigatonnes of CO₂ – the target is 4 gigatonnes. “Major changes are needed, and we have been preparing for them for a long time,” says AGCO CEO Eric Hansotia. AGCO develops and designs solutions with battery-electric drive, hydrogen, fuel cells, methane and methanol, among others. Our AGCO Power engines have drastically reduced particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions and fulfil the strictest emission regulations. They are also compatible with HVO fuels. The CORE engine family enables the further development of current diesel engines to run on future alternative fuels – a milestone for sustainable agriculture.

Fendt merchandise

We are also increasingly focusing on sustainability in the area of merchandise in order to reduce the ecological footprint of our products. A significant step in this direction is the introduction of the Fendt Natural Line, a new collection that has been available since 2024.
The collection carries certifications such as FairTrade (sustainable cotton, fair working conditions), GOTS (ecological textile production), Grüner Knopf (government sustainability seal) and Cradle to Cradle Gold – for a responsible future.
