New features on the Fendt MOMENTUM precision planter

Changing climate conditions means the best sowing windows are becoming shorter, with ever-increasing demands on sowing technology. The Fendt MOMENTUM ultra-precision planter with liquid fertiliser option has already proven itself to customers in North America, Brazil and Eastern Europe, as part of the Fendt MOMENTUM Crop Tour. An additional rapeseed kit and extra granulate tank expand the range of applications and impact of the Fendt MOMENTUM.

Even more precise singulation

From July, the Eastern European market will be able to order a special rapeseed-sowing kit for the Fendt MOMENTUM. This significantly expands the current range of maize, soybeans and sunflowers, and means the Fendt MOMENTUM can sow even smaller seeds.

New drill unit

Different seed line pipes are used to transport different seeds perfectly from the tank to its planting spot in the field. Changing the seed line tubes is quick and easy, with a redesigned furrow shaper and a new suspension design for the disc. It means even less downtime while the seed is changed.

There's also the option of a tank for microgranulates or insecticide. This can be installed in addition to each drill unit, with benefits including being able to apply an additional pre-growth fertiliser while sowing.

Always on track even without lane guidance

Shadows from trees or the topography can interrupt the GPS signal, but the optional track marker for the Fendt MOMENTUM overcomes this problem. Fields are processed efficiently even if the signal is down, and lanes are smoothly transitioned. The track marker can even be used to oversee headland work.

Environmental protection plus increased yields

Steady crop emergence is crucial to maximising your yield potential, with the planting depth and drill ballast playing a decisive role in this uniform emergence. The Fendt MOMENTUM ensures that the seed is sown evenly and at the right depth with its automatic drill ballast feature, DeltaForce. The high-precision singulation unit vSet achieves a singulation accuracy of 99.5% even at high sowing speeds. The seed is perfectly planted every time.

In the 2020 sowing season, AGCO conducted a year-long trial in maize fields as part of the Fendt MOMENTUM Crop Tour in Ukraine. The test results show that the Fendt MOMENTUM achieves an increase in yield through its combination of precision and smart solutions. The automatic drill ballast feature DeltaForce brought a significant increase in yield of 1.7 and 1.3 t/ha respectively, compared to fixed ballasting.

Another factor for uniform yield is the reduction in soil compaction. The Fendt MOMENTUM's fully automatic weight management system Load Logic prevents soil compaction by hydraulically adjusting the weight distribution. The system uses weighing sensors to record the weight on each axle and can adjust this weight hydraulically. It also automatically adapts the internal tyre pressure to suit vehicle loads. This reduces soil compaction, which means crops emerge more evenly and, in turn, increases yield.

As part of the 2020 Fendt MOMENTUM Crop Tour, AGCO conducted a field trial to show how soil compaction affects the growth height of maize. The test plots of land were located in the US states of Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio and South Dakota. In the field trial, the maize plants reached an average growth height of 182 cm, or 189 cm when the precision planter was driven with a tyre pressure of 1 bar. This is at least 10 cm higher than when the precision planter was driven with a tyre pressure of 3.8 bar. By reducing soil compaction during sowing, the team managed to significantly increase the biomass, resulting in a higher yield.

On the Brazilian market, the precision planter comes as models Fendt MOMENTUM 30 and Fendt MOMENTUM 40, with 30 and 40 drills respectively. In North America, the Fendt MOMENTUM is available as a 16, 24, 32, 36 or 48-drill machine. On the Eastern European market, the Fendt MOMENTUM 16 and Fendt MOMENTUM 24 can be ordered with 16 and 24 drills respectively.
