Series production of the first generation of the Fendt 1000 Vario began in 2015. Ten years later, Fendt is already presenting the fourth generation of the large tractor. Compact, well-visible dimensions with strong performance continue to be its key features. A new feature is a completely newly developed innovative lighting concept, the extended power range of 426 – 550 hp, which can be regulated downwards with lower power requirements, and a dual wheel hub option for dual tyres.

The fourth generation of the series sits in the power range from 426 to 550 hp (313 – 405 kW) with four models (Fendt 1040, 1044, 1048 and Fendt 1052 Vario). The Fendt DynamicPerformance (DP) added-power concept is available for all models and, depending on the model, additionally adds 26, 27 or 30 hp (19, 20 or 22 kW), when its required. Fendt DP is bound to neither driving speed nor special application tasks and works purely dynamically – even during stationary PTO work or, depending on the operating conditions in soil cultivation. If the power requirement rises for consumers such as hydraulics, PTO, compressed air supply or air-conditioning, Fendt DP gives it more power and ensures consistent work performance.

Developed as a flexible and compact tractor in the performance class up to 550 hp, the focus of the development was on a low empty weight with compact dimensions for the performance class, which allow the most unobstructed view of work results. In addition, numerous equipment options are designed for the global requirements for a standard tractor for heavy towing or soil work, transport with up to 60 km/h (for flange and 2.50 m stub axle) or for use in construction and forestry sectors with implements with a high power requirement such as soil stabilisation milling or wood chippers.

The well-known MAN engine has already been approved for HVO100 and other fuels according to DIN 15940 in the current expansion stage. Operating with HVO can significantly reduce the machine's CO2 footprint. Technical optimisations increase the replacement interval of the transmission oil from 2,000 to 4,000 operating hours or 4 years. This further reduces maintenance costs.

Optimally illuminated - With up to 120,500 lumens

A green Fendt tractor 1000 Vario working in a field with stubble with an Amazone cultivator in green and orange, in the twilight, the spotlights are on.

With the Fendt 1000 Vario series, for the first time, Fendt is presenting the new tractor cab with an exclusively developed lighting concept. Work such as seeding, harvesting or winter service are highly dependent on the weather. Without the threat of poor weather or time pressure, if the work lasts until night to keep the harvest quality high, the lighting of the tractor can be the decisive factor to keep on working.

The view to the front and the view of the implement and the surrounding area are keys to continuously monitor the work result. The LED spotlights are available in two equipment variants: Vision and UltraVision. In both variants, 8 or 12 spotlights can be installed in the cab roof. In the UltraVision variant, the tractor illuminates the area with 4,400 lumens per spotlight and the spotlights are dimmable in 5 stages. This function is especially useful when several machines are working an area. The Vision equipment option offers 1,000 lumens per spotlight. All spotlights, including the rotating beacon, are firmly installed in the cab roof for optimum illumination and glare-free working and are aimed at the work, whether in forestry, construction sites, agricultural use such as field work or harvesting work such as silage.

Simple and quick operation

Up to four individual light profiles can be stored for pleasant and quick operation of the work lights. When the tractor is driving in the harvest chain, for example, the right side can be off and the left side can be adjusted brighter to that the combine harvester isn’t blinded. The set configuration can also be mirrored with one click. This function is suitable for situations with special requirements for illumination, such as milling on night time construction sites. Then the light on the side can be dimmed with passing traffic, while the side facing away from the road is illuminated brighter. If the tractor changes the direction of operation when milling, it can mirror the setting and prevents glare for traffic. Another new feature is the independent control of spotlights to the same position. If the weather changes due to fog or rain, the light intensity can be adjusted quickly.

The machine can be equipped with Tech Rails on the C-pillar for the installation of complementary work lights or with sensors in the future. The Tech Rails including their own cable entry provide space for up to two work lights per side. This means that the machines are prepared for future requirements.

The optional Fendt GroundVision drawbar lighting illuminates the area directly at the rear of the machine. On the one hand, the area directly in front of the implement and its front is illuminated in field use, on the other hand, it simplifies the attachment and detachment of implements in the dark. The lights are integrated at the lower end of the rear fenders.

In addition, the well-known spotlight options on the tractor's chassis are also available, which complete the lighting concept. These include:

  • Work lights in the bonnet
  • Daytime running lights (standard)
  • Low beam and high beam
  • Corner Lights (standard)
  • Additional lighting on the mirror holder
  • New indicator and position lights
  • 4 work lights on the A-pillar
  • Entrance lighting
  • Rear lights
  • Work lights on the rear fenders
  • Lighting for marking for wide load

The best place on the field and the road

The tractor cab is central to driving comfort: the seat, air-conditioning, lighting and visual axes influence the working comfort just as much as the work result. For example, an overview and a smooth driving style in use with an overload wagon on the field or soil stabilisation milling are crucial to harvest the crop as efficiently and comfortably as possible, while remaining to carry out the work precisely. Good lines of sight and a pleasant driving experience make this easier thanks to the coordinated suspension concept and the VarioDrive drivetrain. The interplay of the standard single-wheel and front axle suspension, the vibration dampening of the power lift and the pneumatic seat suspension ensures a high level of driving comfort. The optional tinted rear window and three optional footrests further increase driving comfort on long days.

The electrically adjustable “Titanium Super Comfort Leather Seat” has numerous options for high seating comfort. The driver adjusts the seat height and position as well as the backrest angle electrically via a lever on the side of the seat. Changing riders can create personalised seat profiles and access them in FendtONE onboard via their user profile.

The comfort functions consist of:

  • Multi-stage seat climate control
  • Multi-stage seat heating
  • Four-way lumbar support
  • Adjustable side bolsters
  • Massage function with three different programs
  • Memory function for different users

Even when used at high outside temperatures, the performance of the series-standard, automatic air-conditioning system provides pleasant temperatures in the cab. There is also a new compressor cooler with a volume of 12 litres. Drinks and food can be cooled (0-16°C).

Another new feature is the integration of Apple CarPlay into the Fendt infotainment via cable or Bluetooth. As already known from the automotive sector, operation is carried out via the terminal on the armrest. The software will be rolled out in June 2026.

Clean air in dusty conditions

The graphic shows the air flow of warm air from the engine and cool outside air in the Concentric Air System (CAS) cooling concept using arrows.

As standard, the Fendt 1000 Vario is equipped with the exclusive Concentric Air System (CAS) ventilation & cooling concept. An optional reversible function is available for the fan. Already with the third generation of the Fendt 1000 Vario, the DLG-award-winning, self-cleaning air filter for the MAN engine was optionally available. This option allows automatic, regular blowing out of the air filter during the working day, reducing maintenance and protecting the components. If the engine air filter is cleaned automatically, drivers can do their field work without interruption, regular cleaning increases the service life of the machine and ensures optimum engine performance and reduced fuel consumption.

In the fourth generation of the Fendt 1000 Vario, this option has now been supplemented with automatic cleaning of the cab air filter. In this system, the cab air filter is continuously and automatically passively cleaned by vacuum and a cyclone separator. This additional function was specially developed for use in hot or particularly dusty conditions, such as cultivating during dry conditions or working with a square baler with a front-mounted chopper. Automatic cleaning keeps the air quality in the cab high and reduces daily maintenance.

Global requirements for regional specifics

The Fendt 1000 Vario can be ordered with a 60-inch track from the factory. All common implement systems are also available. The K80 coupling head in the bottom hitch and the swivel drawbar in categories 4 and 5 will also be now available in Europe. The self-cleaning air filter, including automatic extraction for the cab interior, puts its benefits on display in particularly dry regions.

Performance on demand in arable farming

The drivetrain of the new 1000 Vario consists of the latest generation of the single-stage VarioDrive transmission and the 6-cylinder MAN engine with a 12.4 litre cubic capacity. Depending on the application in soil cultivation, sowing or harvesting, tractors require different amounts of performance in arable farming. The power requirement directly affects fuel consumption. Therefore, one focus of the development of the new generation of the Fendt 1000 Vario was on economic efficiency. Depending on the work involved, the concept of adjustable power levels ensures high efficiency and low fuel consumption, as the power called up is adjusted as required.

Adjustable power levels

An absolute novelty of the Fendt 1000 Vario Gen4 are just these adjustable power levels. The particularly powerful models are often also used when working with a lower power requirement in order to optimally utilise the machines. For the first time, the driver can select the various power levels according to the range of the application and implement. If the top model Fendt 1052 Vario is used, for example, in front of a square baler or an 8 m disc harrow, the power can be reduced. For each model, only the downward adjustment of the power level is possible. This means that customers of an Fendt 1044 Vario cannot call up the performance of the larger Fendt 1048 and 1052 Vario models, but only those of the smaller model Fendt 1040 Vario. This option significantly reduces fuel consumption, protects implements that are not designed for 550 hp engine power and the tractor can be used more versatilely.

In addition to the called up power, the interaction between engine and transmission in the Fendt VarioDrive drivetrain is an important factor for low fuel consumption. For the fourth generation of the Fendt 1000 Vario, the engine and transmission have been optimised once again, so that the engine provides more power with lower fuel consumption. The well-known advantages of VarioDrive include: Shifting the driving ranges and switching the four-wheel drive on and off manually is no longer necessary. VarioDrive drives the front and rear axles independently according to demand and dynamically distributes the power to the axle with grip. The result: full tractive power is available in the field and torsion is avoided when driving by road or cornering. For the first time in agricultural machinery, the front axle can actively pull the tractor through a turn – the pull-in turn effect. The tractor requires less space when turning.

The Fendt iD low speed concept also reduces fuel consumption. All tractor components such as engine, transmission, hydraulics and cooling were designed based on the so-called “high torque – low engine speed” principle. With the Fendt iD low speed concept, the Fendt 1000 Vario achieves high torque and saves fuel even at low engine speeds. The rated engine speed is only 1,700 rpm. In the main working range, the speed is a quiet 1,100 to 1,400 rpm. The tractors already reach speeds of up to 50 km/h at 1,200 rpm, and the maximum possible speed of 60 km/h at 1,450 rpm. The maximum torque of 2,650 Nm is available on the top Fendt 1052 Vario model from 1,150 rpm and ensures high tractive power and acceleration with minimal specific fuel consumption.

High payload and hydraulic power in agriculture

A green Fendt 1000 Vario driving to the field with a cultivator

Hydraulic functions such as pneumatic blowers, the Coulter pressure control or the lowering and raising of the precision seeder or slurry application with a drum including suction arm require a high, demand-oriented hydraulic power with regard to pressure and volume as well as a high drawbar load or payload. The Fendt 1000 Vario has a maximum of six hydraulic connections in the rear and a control unit in the front (6+1). Optionally, a double pump system with 430 l/min (220 + 210 l/min) delivery volume can also be installed. At the rear, the Load Sensing (LS) connections and control units can be equipped with FFC couplings. These reduce the dirt ingress into the system as well as oil leakage and pressure losses.

The operating weight of 14 t with a permissible overall weight of 21 t with approval with 40 or 50 km/h allows 7 t payload. If the tractor is approved for 60 km/h, the permissible overall weight is 18 t and allows 4 t of payload.

Numerous axle and tyre options

A green Fendt 1000 Vario with large tyres driving along a stubble field.

For the Fendt 1000 Vario, there are numerous options for the rear axle and the tyres with a maximum diameter of 2.35 m at the rear to choose from. Depending on the local requirements, customers can order the tractor as standard with a flange or stub axle. For Europe, a stub axle with an outside width of 2.50 m is available. For countries outside the EU, a stub axle with an outside width of 3.0 m is available.

With the fourth generation, the customer has more tyre options available. Depending on the range of applications, single tyres, metric dual tyres or Row Crop dual tyres are available. New for Europe, the Row Crop dual tyres on the rear axle of the tractor are available from the factory. Four times 480/95R54 tyres are mounted. In combination with a newly designed rear including lower link with quick-hold hook, Rub Blocks and the stub axle with an outside width of 2.5 m, the outer tyres are mounted with the dual wheel hub.

The dual wheel hub is a coupling system for twin wheels that allows the transmission of higher forces. It transmits the power safely across the axles, unlike the rims, as with conventional solutions. The proven single tyres (710/60R38) are installed on the front axle. Here, the track for increased manoeuvrability was adjusted to 2,250 mm. This complete solution is available from the factory and increases the towing performance and reduces the slip. The machine remains below an outside width of 3.50 m, which enables approval with an exemption. In the rear, both drawbar and the K80 hitches are available, and a classic towing drawbar can also be used to cover traditional bottom hitches.

The well-known VarioGrip tyre pressure regulation system is also available for the Fendt 1000 Vario Gen4. It increases the contact surface of the tyres, increases the tractive power, at the same time reduces fuel consumption and thus increases the overall productivity of the machine. Fendt VarioGrip is optionally available directly from the factory for both the flange and stub axles, for dual tyres for Row Crops and also with wheel weights.

Wheel and front weights are also optionally available. The wheel weights of 1.3 t and the front weight of 2.2 t are new. The high material density of the weights reduces the overall volume and thus allows smaller dimensions. In the case of the front weight, the machine thus loads less strongly forward and the weight edges keep free of the low beams and high beams

High performance in non-agricultural use

A green Fendt 1000 Vario cropped from the side

Large snow blowers, wood chippers, forest mulchers, soil stabilisation and stone milling machines have a high power requirement and are often used in rough terrain. This work also requires high precision and manoeuvrability, for example, on tight construction sites. Fendt VarioDrive, the optional reverse drive control, numerous tyre options, the individual illumination options, the adjustable performance and the flexible use in front of milling machines, containers, or other implements of the Fendt 1000 Vario can be used productively here.

If, for example, the tractor is inserted in front of a forest milling machine, the entire seat and armrest can be turned thanks to the available reverse drive control. The reverse drive control prevents constant rotation of the body axis during long-lasting work in the rear and ensures an optimal view of the implement. If the Fendt 1000 Vario is used in winter service, the heated and robust laminated safety glass (LSG) front window makes visibility easier. It is more robust than conventional panes windows via its special composite process and thus withstands better when coming into contact with foreign objects, since the glass with integrated splinter protection breaks in the event of damage, but does not disintegrate into fragments into the cab. This protects the driver from injuries. The front window heating accelerates the defrosting, prevents renewed ice formation and fogging in case of snowfall. In addition, the laminated safety glass front window dampens noise better. The new seating generation further increases the working comfort. For use in municipal areas, for example with a snow blower or on a construction site, a front window wiper on the right side of the Fendt 1000 Vario is also fitted as standard from the factory.

The Fendt 1000 Vario Gen4 can be ordered from autumn 2025.
